There is something special in reaching out through words that carry a piece of his soul, and there is nothing better for him than hearing back from readers. It turns the product of what can be a very individual-centered profession into a shared experience, a chance to talk, to grow, … Read more

Review: Untouchable, by LV Lloyd

Untouchable

I just finished a book I’d been planning to read for a long time – LV Lloyd’s “Untouchable”. It’s a space opera, and the fifth book in Lloyd’s Aurigan series. It’s also the first full-length book I have read by Lloyd. I really enjoyed the book. In a nutshell, it’s about several “oms” (Aurigan parlance for homosexual) on the patrol ship Qatar. The story opens with a bang – with one of them on trial for raping a minor, the son of his best friend. Then it spins back to the situation that resulted in the trial, and off we … Read more

Today’s Blog Tour Stop for The Autumn Lands

Cate Ashwood

Today I’m stopping by Cate Ashwood’s blog to answer some interview questions – Thanks Cate! How do you think your writing has developed since you started? Oh, it’s gotten much better. I first started writing when I was in fourth or fifth grade. I wrote on and off until my early twenties, when I finished my first novel. When it and five or ten short stories were all rejected, I kind of lost momentum, and though I tried to come back to it several times, it never really stuck. Somehow, though, I had this idea in the back of my … Read more

The Autumn Lands

Hey all, I am so thrilled to announce the cover (by the amazing Catherine Dair) for my novella The Autumn Lands. I am over the moon about this cover. 🙂 Jerrith is running. Kissed by an elf, he can’t remain in his hometown of Althos any more. Not that he wanted to stay. Caspian still hasn’t figured out why he kissed Jerrith, but he’s running too. Since he was exiled from the Autumn Lands, his past has been hazy, and his future uncertain. But when a stray memory brings things into focus, the two decide to run toward something together. … Read more

Point of View: Third Draft Hell

Scott

Anyone who follows me regularly will know that I decided to do NaNoWriMo (the writing challenge where you try to knock out a 50k novel in 30 days) for the first time in November. I survived the challenge and wrote Oberon, the first part of a trilogy I’ve been knocking around in my head for about a year. A week later, I dived back in for second draft, and thought that I had managed to iron out most of the problems with the story. I was fairly confident that it all when I sent it off for a beta read. … Read more

Review: Artifice, by Alex Woolfson

Now I see what all the fuss is about. I just finished reading the graphic novel Artifice, by Alex Woolfson (illustrations by Winona Nelson). When we planned to attend Rainbow Con, Angel was all excited about the featured guest, some guy I’d never heard of. Turns out Alex had the table across from QSF in the dealer room – he’s a great, sweet, personable guy. I’m sorry it took me so long to review this, Alex! I planned to buy it at RC, but Mark dissuaded me – apparently because he wanted to surprise me for Christmas with a signed … Read more
