Hey all,
Sometimes we touch lives in ways that we never anticipated, and in ways that rebound back to us and remind us why we do this whole author thing in the first place.
Last year, for the first time, I had someone come up to me at a trade show and tell me how much he had loved one of my stories. Since then, that wonderful thing been repeated a number of times, and every time it makes my little author heart sing.
But this morning I woke up to the best one of all. Stefan, a friend of mine who has read a few of my stories, wrote to tell me that my words had inspired him to propose to his partner of eight years. He’d always been afraid to take that step, having come from a very homophobic family – and somehow my little words about love and relationships and overcoming hardships inspired him to take that step.
I am humbled. I may have cried a little when he told me. And I am reminded that the words we put out into the world, the stories we tell – they matter. They have the power to change minds, and sometimes even to change lives.
In these dark days, we have the power to shine a little light and love into the world. If we’re lucky, some of it shines back on us.
Have you ever had someone tell you how your words changed their world?
