A bit of a short column today because I’m still catching up from an absolutely amazing Sacramento Pride this weekend.
It was our best sales event ever – but more than that, it was filled with readers who stopped by our booth, whose faces lit up with excitement at meeting local queer authors… us. It was a wonderful validation of what we do, and why we do it, something most of us are sorely lacking as we plug away in our writer caves.
But beyond that, I realized how lucky I am to be surrounded by such a fantastic group of authors – and friends. We worked together like a well-oiled machine – as soon as one person made a sale, another QSAC member swooped in to process it, allowing the author to fully engage with the reader as they sign their chosen book.
Six other authors gave up their weekend to hang out with Mark and I at Pride (along with assorted spouses), and somewhere in the middle of it all, I realized how much our little local author group has grown since Pat, Christopher and I first launched it about ten years ago. And how much it has grown to mean to me.
QSAC survived the pandemic, and now we continue to grow and thrive, getting better an this whole group author thing every year.
I am not alone.
And to my author friends out there, I can’t recommend enough finding yourself (or building) a local author support group like this one.
Then you won’t be alone either.
