Point of View: Responding

Hey all, I won’t lie. Last week was a horrible, terrible, very bad week for Mark and I, and for most everyone we know. And it’s not just because a Republican won the white house. That’s happened before. Not my team, not my party, but it’s how America works. This was something deeper. Darker. The man who won did so on a platform of lies, fear, and hatred. He won by denying things he’d said before that we have on tape with a straight face. He won with the help of the Russian government, and of our own FBI. And … Read more

QSF Talks With Jeff and Will

Big Gay Fiction Podcast

Angel and I had the opportunity to chat with Jeff and Will of the Big Gay Fiction Podcast at GRL. They invited us up to their room and everything. And yes, it was a nice room. These guys have good taste. 😛 Apparently there’s an origin story in here too somewhere – I’m betting it has to do with that time QSF came from Krypton and discovered it had super powers because of Earth’s yellow sun. Or there was a radioactive spider. Or something else totally non derivative. Oh, and LOVE LOVE LOVE the buttons, boys! Enjoy! Click the link … Read more

Point of View: Keeping My Sanity

banana-split

OK, it’s finally over after tomorrow. Far and away the worst and most personally damaging election of my lifetime is oozing ever so slowly toward its conclusion. That it was such a terrible, mentally and emotionally exhausting election for me this year can be laid squarely at the feet of one of the two candidates, who decided facts don’t matter and insults do. Suffice it to say I have voted for the other one, the one who will protect the interests of myself, my husband, our community at large, and the country. But this post is not about the election, … Read more

Point of View: Ten Things You Didn’t Know About Me

Scott and Lana

Hey all, I thought it would be fun to do something a little different this week. I’m a strange and mysterious member of the human race, and there are a number of things you probably don’t know about me. Pictured: Me and my mom, circa 1982-83. So here it goes: 1) My First Book: My first fiction publication was the story “The Bear at the Bar”, published in 2014 by Dreamspinner in the “A Taste of Honey” anthology. But I was actually published originally in 1986 in the book “Raising Each Other,” a non-fiction title for teens and parents. 2) In … Read more

Alicia Nordwell

Welcome to my weekly Author Spotlight. I’ve asked a bunch of my author friends to answer a set of interview questions, and to share their latest work. Why write men when you’re a woman?” and her answer is: “Why the hell not!” Alicia Nordwell is one of those not so rare creatures, a reader turned writer. Striving to find an interesting story one day, she decided to write what she wanted instead. Then the voices started… Yep, not … Read more

Point of View: After the Con

Scott Predictions

OK, so GRL 2016 (Kansas City) is officially over. Time to look back over my pre-con predictions: 1) The Dancing Bear: There was no dancing bear (though there was a dancing Cowardly Lion – who knew Steve Zimmerman was so furry?). There were also dancing flying monkeys, fancing witches, and a handsome dancing tin man. Prediction Rating: 2 out of 5. 2) The Smores Bar: There was no smores bar, though there was a fairly good buffet on the last night, and the Grease movie night featured a fair selection of candy and some great pop corn, including Hershey bars, … Read more

Love Bytes Reviews “The Autumn Lands” Audio

Love Bytes The Autumn Lands Audio Review

Just got a fantastic five heart review of Vance’s audio version of “The Autumn Lands” from Alexander at Love Bytes: The world building was well done, enough clear descriptions to allow my imagination to fill any gaps, and the science fiction elements were kept relatively clean and simple, which worked well in terms of ease of reading, and not to give anything away, but I did not see the story ending like it did, although once the final act had been played out, it made perfect sense, and I commend Coatsworth for that “wow” moment. I really enjoyed Bastian’s narration … Read more
