Point of View: Writing a Sequel

Scott

Hey all, I’m going into uncharted waters here. Over the last few weeks, I mapped out the course for “Lander”, the sequel to “Skythane”, my first published novel that comes out on February 17th.Cover reveal on 1/18 – woo hoo! In “Skythane”, an unlikely pair races to save the world – a very unusual world that’s been split in half by an ancient calamity. The timing to begin the sequel was fortuitous, as I had just read through my proof copy of “Skythane”, and made notes about all the little plot threads I needed to continue or wrap up in … Read more

Skythane Gets a Date!

Hey guys, So excited to announce the date for the release of my first full-length novel, Skythane – the first book in the Oberon trilogy: Jameson Havercamp, a psych from a conservative religious colony, has come to Oberon—unique among the Common Worlds—in search of a rare substance called pith. He’s guided through the wilds on his quest by Xander Kinnison, a handsome, cocky wing man with a troubled past. Neither knows that Oberon is facing imminent destruction. Even as the world starts to fall apart around them, they have no idea what’s coming—or the bond that will develop between them as they … Read more

Point of View: I Wish I Lived in Stars Hollow

chasm

We’re most of the way through our sixth or seventh or maybe eighth viewing of the entire Gilmore Girls series, and I find myself affected by a peculiar kind of nostalgia. It’s a longing for a simpler time, when things were less messy. Less racist. Less Trump. Watching this show, I can envision the perfect place. It’s clean, friendly, an ideal combination of small town charm and big city mores. Okay, so Stars Hollow is a little white. Maybe a lot white. But there’s something about it that calls to me, that imagines America as it could be if we … Read more

Author Spotlight: Aeryn Jaden

Aeryn Jaden

Welcome to my weekly Author Spotlight. I’ve asked a bunch of my author friends to answer a set of interview questions, and to share their latest work. Today, Aeryn Jaden – Aeryn Jaden loves to read. Loves it so much that some days she doesn’t know what reality is anymore. Her friends and family usually have to yell a bit and remind her. Must be why she’s twenty eight and still searching for a special person of her own. The second best thing in the world for Aeryn is writing. Writing keeps her relatively sane and clears the voices in … Read more

Anne Barwell Gives This Wish Tonight 4.5 Stars

Another great review, this one from Anne Barwell, of “This Wish Tonight” and “Wonderland”: This is also SF, but very different from the previous one as it is set on Earth in the not so distant future after a rather nasty plague has decimated the population. Both Nathan and Zeke need to do some serious soul searching and I liked that one of the MCs is dealing with OCD as it gave the story more of a realistic edge. I prefer to read about characters who have an internal struggle as well an external one. The descriptions of the setting … Read more

Review: Gravitational Attraction, by Angel Martinez

Gravitational Attraction

I just finished reading Angel Martinez’s MM sci fi book Gravitational Attraction, a title I’ve been meaning to get around to for more than two years. Anyone who knows me also knows how rare my free reading time is. So when things calmed down post-Christmas, I decided to finally jump in and read it. The story is set in Martinez’s ESTO universe. In a nutshell, Isaac is a damaged ex-starship pilot working on an independent ship. Turk is a mostly human, strapping giant mercenary who is dealing with some damage of his own. They could be the solutions to each others’ problems, and soon they … Read more

Point of View: 2017 Goals

2017 Writer Goals

Another year has come and gone. In some ways it was one of the ugliest years I can remember, and 2017 promises to be pretty bad too. But on a personal, writing-related note, it was pretty good. I had two novellas and two short stories published. I hung out with other writer folks at DSP, YaoiCon, and GRL. And I sold my first novel (and the first in a series, if all goes well). So what does my 2017 look like? I thought I’d share my goals with you, my faithful readers and fans. First, my publication goals: 1) Lander: … Read more
