AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: Mary Rundle

Welcome to my weekly Author Spotlight. I’ve asked a bunch of my author friends to answer a set of interview questions, and to share their latest work. Today, Mary Rundle – The first book I ever wrote was Dire Warning in 2017 and, much to my delight, it became an Amazon Best Seller. Readers loved it and I was on my way to chronicling the Blackwood Pack, seven brothers who are gay wolf shifters in search of their fated mates– stories about love at first sight with twists and turns, angst and humor, romance and adventure and, of course, happy endings. … Read more

Great Review for Repetition

Repetition

Just got a great review for Repetition from Rainbow Book Reviews: http://www.rainbowbookreviews.com/book-reviews/repetition-by-j-scott-coatsworth “While the technology of time travel Davis uses is sort of explained, at least enough to make it plausible if you don’t go too deep, it is not really the focus of this story.”What I found fascinating is the human part of the equation: Davis’s conclusion about what he should do, his client’s reaction, and the consequences when they collide. It’s amazing what can happen in just over twenty pages of a short story, and the ending, while I had hoped it might be different, is perfect just … Read more

I’m On WROTE!

I got a call from Baz a couple weeks ago asking if I could fill in as the guest on the WROTE podcast. Of course I said YES! And we enjoyed a great free-ranging talk about writing and being writers. Check it out here.

POINT OF VIEW: Three Cats Short of a Horde

Warning/Disclaimer: In today’s column, I discuss phrases that are colorful synonyms for when someone is “crazy.” I want to distinguish this from mental illness, which is not what I am referring to. Instead, I am referring to people who espouse crazy ideas, often knowing they are not true. Every good writer loves words. It’s an inherent part of the job, just like good lawyers love the law and good pilots love their planes. Words are an integral part of our trade, and we delight in the weird and wonderful nature of the language and enjoy twisting it around like warm … Read more

Wendy is giving away an eBook copy of her bestselling fantasy from 2018, The Imposter Prince, with this post – for a chance to win, just comment below. Today, Wendy Rathbone – I love to write. The reason I write romance these days is because the overwhelming power of falling in love (which has been proven to heal even cancer) is a game-changer. It makes sad people instantly happy. It makes bleak reality look sun-warmed and … Read more

POINT OF VIEW: 2019

It’s that time of year again – time to take stock of the ending year, and make plans and write down my goals for 2019. Looking Back So I thought I’d start by looking back at what I said a year ago: “Nevertheless, I go into 2018 re-energized. For one, it’s an election year, and I can see a blue wave rising on the horizon.” Nailed it! Yeah, we didn’t take the senate, but we go into 2019 a lot stronger than we did in 2018. “For another, I finished and sold book two for each of my trilogies with … Read more

COVER REVEAL/GIVEAWAY: Contact, by M.D. Neu

My friend M.D. Neu has a new queer sci fi book coming out – Contact – and I get to be one of the first to share the cover! A little blue world, the third planet from the sun. It’s home to seven billion people—with all manner of faiths, beliefs, and customs, divided by bigotry and misunderstanding—who will soon be told they are not alone in the universe. Anyone watching from the outside would pass by this fractured and tumultuous world, unless they had no other choice. Todd Landon is one of these people, living and working in a section … Read more

Novel Approach Reviewer Chooses “Lander” as One of the Best of 2018

Just got word that Lindsey at the Novel Approach chose “Lander” as one of her fave books of 2018 – what an honor: Lander by J. Scott Coatsworth – I love a good sci-fi and high fantasy combination. It’s not an easy win for me, though. The world building has to be just right, with the fantasy and technology intertwined clearly enough for me to keep up with what is happening and not get lost. The plot still must be complex enough to keep me interested. Skythane, the first book in The Oberon Cycle, did just that. I couldn’t wait to catch up with Xander and Jameson … Read more
