REVIEW: Skythane

Skythane

Just got a fantastic review of Skythane from Jayne at WROTE Podcast: Having read The Stark Divide, I was already confident in this author’s world-building technique and ability to tell a rip-roaring tale. Skythane is the story of Xander and Jameson, ostensibly on a mission to find supplies of pith (a mind-altering drug) but they find themselves at the centre of a race to save the planet from destruction… I loved the way the way every creature, every fruit, plant, the technology, the weather,  food cooking methods, the weaponry, the transport, the cities, religious structure, every little thing has been … Read more

Great Review for “The Stark Divide”

Ryane Chatman Review - The Stark Divide

Just got a fabulous review for “The Stark Divide” from Ryane Chatman:   Mr. Coatsworth continues to delight me with each book he writes. I am whisked off to reaches unknown, or reminded of places I’d like to see. He spins tales of longing, despair, faith (not always in the religious sense), and hope. Hope being the key feature of all of his stories. Hope keeps you young. Faith keeps you believing in hope. These are lessons we forget or we become too cynical to carry….   See the full review here: https://www.thornsandink.com/single-post/2018/02/01/The-Stark-Divide-Liminal-Sky-Book-One Get it now: DSP Publications (paperback): https://www.dsppublications.com/books/the-stark-divide-by-j-scott-coatsworth-416-b DSP … Read more

REVIEW: The Stark Divide – Sci Fi Pulse

The Stark Divide - SciFi Pulse

What an awesome review for The Stark Divide from Patrick at Sci Fi Pulse: A science fiction novel with a classic premise that delivers drama, action, technology, and heart. I haven’t felt this way after reading a sci-fi book since reading an Asimov or Heinlein novel. Coatsworth is to be congratulated for capturing the spirit of those writers and creating a new tale that will make readers look to the starts. Overall grade: A OMG, I am literally speechless to be mentioned in the same breath as Asimov and Heinlein. 😀 Read the full review here:http://www.scifipulse.net/in-review-the-stark-divide/ And order the book … Read more

Review: Gravitational Attraction, by Angel Martinez

Gravitational Attraction

I just finished reading Angel Martinez’s MM sci fi book Gravitational Attraction, a title I’ve been meaning to get around to for more than two years. Anyone who knows me also knows how rare my free reading time is. So when things calmed down post-Christmas, I decided to finally jump in and read it. The story is set in Martinez’s ESTO universe. In a nutshell, Isaac is a damaged ex-starship pilot working on an independent ship. Turk is a mostly human, strapping giant mercenary who is dealing with some damage of his own. They could be the solutions to each others’ problems, and soon they … Read more

Great Review for Myths Untold: Faery!

Anna Butler

Just got an amazing review from Anna Butler for our new anthology, Myths Untold: Faery: I’ve never grown out of my love for myth and faery stories. In their purest forms, they’re primeval, subversive, eldritch, enlightening, sinister, unsafe and ultimately unknowable. When I graduated up from Grimm, it was to Warner Townsend and Dunsany both of whom have moulded my views of what Faerie is, or may be: minutely detailed, threatening worlds with their cold, inhuman and amoral peoples. Get some of that into a modern day take of faery, and I will be satisfied. Four very different authors. Four very different … Read more

And the Myths Untold: Faery Blog Tour Gets Rolling

“Myths Untold: Faery” launched this morning, including my new story “Through the Veil“. And along with it, the blog tour is in full swing. 🙂 Over at Melanie Marshall’s Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words, all four authors are talking about how we write: How do you write – are you a plotter or pantser, or both? Skye Hegyes: I’m a bit of both. With short stories and some of the novellas I’ve worked on, I can take a vague idea and run with it, writing it without planning too much. That said, novels are another story. I recently tried pantsing a … Read more

It’s Double Release Day!

Myths Untold: Faery

When it rains, it pours. Today I have not just one but two new stories releasing. The first is my short story – Repetition – coming out in the MCB Quarterly from Mischief Corner Books: Davis plays with people’s lives, changing timelines like other men change clothes. But he always keeps his own timeline out of it by remembering his mantra: You’re not God. Never mess with your own past. Remember, you’re not God. But this time things are different – his new client is a man from Davis’s own past who wants to go back into the closet. Things … Read more

Author Spotlight: Anna Butler

Anna Butler

Welcome to my weekly Author Spotlight. I’ve asked a bunch of my author friends to answer a set of interview questions, and to share their latest work. Today, Anna Butler – Anna was a communications specialist for many years, working in various UK government departments on everything from marketing employment schemes to organizing conferences for 10,000 civil servants to running an internal TV service. These days, though, she is writing full time. She recently moved out of the ethnic and cultural melting pot of East London to the rather slower environs of a quiet village tucked deep in the Nottinghamshire … Read more

I understand you are about to begin your first mission on Earth and that you’ll be going into dragon-occupied territory. I also realize that some things are classified; however, can you tell me a little about your role in this mission? Brett: Thank you for having me.
