Welcome to my weekly Author Spotlight. I’ve asked a bunch of my author friends to answer a set of interview questions, and to share their latest work.
Today, Bronwyn Heeley stops by my hot seat!
Thanks so much, Bronwyn, for joining me!
J. Scott Coatsworth: Tell me one thing hardly anyone knows about you.
Bronwyn Heeley: I fear heights, not really something I donāt mention, but Iām actually scared of manmade highs, I could stand on the edge of a cliff and not have a problem, but you put up a rail and Iām terrified. Elevators with glassā¦.bridgesā¦ scaffoldingā¦ the in closed bridge when getting on a planeā¦nearly toppled people over as I had to wait of that thing (I couldnāt even see outside).
JSC: When did you know you wanted to write, and when did you discover that you were good at it?
BH: I had a moment when reading Twilight when I took a breath and thought āI could do thatā which is what I did. It wasnāt for a good year later that I decided that being an author was what I wanted to be when I grew up. I realized early that I had a talent for story telling itās the rest that took me awhile to work my way through.
JSC: Were you a voracious reader as a child?
BH: No, I had a lot of reading delays as a child and it wasnāt until I was around 21 that I started reading when my son was 2 and I was pregnant with my daughter and I havenāt stopped.
JSC: How would you describe your writing style/genre?
BH: I write in a unique style, especially in the romance genre, as I write deep third person POV, in multiple sub-genres including sci-fi, paranormal, contemporary, BDSM, erotica and I have plans to get into mystery.
JSC: Whatās the weirdest thing youāve ever done in the name of research?
BH: Can having a long chat with my father about strap-ons be classed as weird? Then thatās what I did, which was also a great way to introduce my brotherās new girlfriend into our family.
JSC: What was your first published work? Tell me a little about it.
BH: My Kevin. Itās a contemporary story written a little more like a backstory in his and how his romance with Kevin. Itās a short sweet romance that I love so much.
JSC: Whatās your greatest weakness as a writer?
BH: Words aka the English language and my own lake of self-confidence.
JSC: Whatās your writing process?
BH: Iām unfortunately a passion or muse writer. I tend to have a lot of difficulties writing when Iām not truly motivated, or more accurately obsessed with the story. I canāt do the write so many words a day. Which means a lot of the time Iām writing either flat out or pushing myself to put any words on the page.
JSC: Would you visit the future or the past, and why?
BH: I think the future, thereās never been any good come from revisiting the past.
JSC: What are you working on now, and when can we expect it?
BH: Right now Iām working on a contemporary story about a man dating again after the loss of his husband. I have plan for a late April release, however Iām going into surgery on the 28th which has a 2 month recovery time, and tho I donāt believe itāll be bed bound I may decide Iām not clear headed enough to finish that story, in which case I will release a 6 book set of 6K short paranormal stories for that time period.
And now for Bronsyn’s new book: In This Life and Beyond:
Sometimes itās as simple as wanting to be more than history claims you can be

Excerpt
Ashley stumbled, steadying himself on a thin tree before he went down. He blinked the memory away. He shouldnāt have been thinking about the past anyway, not when he was trying to walk up to a pub that would do anything it could to turn him away for not being evil enough. Yeah, he was heading towards a grand establishment, but he had to do what he had to do.
Shaking his head, Ashley tried to get himself to snap out of the guilt he was feeling over what was about to happen. He couldnāt do what was needed if he let himself get eaten up over the whole thing. He needed to pull himself together and carry on. It was necessary.
Yes. He nodded to himself, standing up straight, holding his head high, and continued to walk down the narrow path that would lead him towards his destiny. The trees, standing tall and thin around him, were silent like no other place ever had been before. It became more and more ominous the closer he got to his destination.
Wet and mouldy, it smelt like earth, like still water in a closed room, and yet not quite. There was something just outside his knowledge, which Ashley knew was a kind of magic. Magic that would keep the undesirable away. It just so happened, that what they would call āundesirablesā were the kind of people youād take home to mother.
It wasnāt as common knowledge as one would have thought, but the only way he was able to get to the pub was because of the blood from his heritage and the unsavouriness of his future.
Even still, with those points and the marks his mother had carved into his body in order to protect him, he still wasnāt evil enough and because of that, his gut continued to churn as his muscles screamed for him to turn away and run. He knew it was all a trick. It was the magic rubbing up against him, telling him he needed to fear it so much he couldnāt go any further. He knew, and probably because he was a witch, was able to tell what was happening. But that didnāt stop itās pull, the instinct to obey.
Ashley swallowed hard. His heart beat in his throat, pounding inside his chest. His fingers tapped against his thigh. His legs became heavier as if he was trying to get himself through hip-high mud after heād run a marathon.
